English below. Ein Gedicht von Georg Weerth (1822–1856), das im Jahr 1844 während der Weberaufstände entstand. Das Gedicht schildert die soziale Not sowie die wachsende Bereitschaft des Volks, sich gegen die absolutistische Herrschaft von König und Adel aufzulehnen. Es ist ein Vorzeichen der späteren Märzrevolution von 1848/49. A poem by Georg Weerth (1822-1856), which was written in 1844 during the weavers' revolts. The poem describes the social hardship and the growing willingness of the people to rebel against the absolutist rule of the king and nobility. It is a forerunner of the later March Revolution of 1848/49.

Weißt du die schlimme Geschicht'?
am Montag aßen wir wenig
und am Dienstag aßen wir nicht

am Mittwoch mussten wir darben
am Donnerstag litten wir Not
und ach am Freitag starben

Dear Lord and King
Do you know the bad story?
we ate little on Monday
and we didn't eat on Tuesday

on Wednesday we had to suffer
on Thursday we had to suffer misery
and oh on Friday
we almost starved to death

So let it bake on Saturday
The bread neatly
