Cyber Doll (1996, Saturn)

Cyber Doll is a JRPG pulished by I'Max and developed by their internal development team Betop. The game is set in a (now) not so distant future. Cyber implants have been developed in reaction to a deadly disease that arouse at the end of the 20th century. It's called the Muscular Loosening Disease. Cyber implants and replacements enabled mankind to survive, albeit at a price, as the side effect of the cyber components was immortality. Years later, however, a new threat appears. Another disease, which now infects both humans and cybernetics implants, turning cyborgs into rampaging monsters. You play a young man who is part of a group called Debuggers, which has been formed to fight the mutants, which are known as Dark Visitors.

Cyber Doll has a classical 2D look with top-down view. Combat has a side-view and is turn-based. The game's theme of cybernetic implants is also reflected by the combat system. Both your character and opponents have different zones which can be targeted separately. These are head, body, legs, left arm and right arm. Every part has its own lifebar and gets destroyed if it reaches zero. Destruction of head or body is lethal, while destruction of arms and legs disable a character or enemy.
