Two Recent Anti-HCQ Studies Under Scrutiny, 3082
Good evening. I’m still reporting on the coup.
This is probably the darkest day in the history of medicine when two of its scientific pillars, The Lancet, and The New England Journal of Medicine recently published authoritative-sounding studies, but which used apparently fraudulent data to publish studies claiming hydroxychloroquine was at least ineffective, and even possibly a dangerous treatment when used against COVID-19.
According to an in-depth study done by the British newspaper, The “Guardian”, the data used for both studies:
“[calls] into question the integrity of these key studies published in some of the world’s most prestigious medical journals.”

The Guardian investigation tracked the bogus data back to:
“Surgisphere, whose handful of employees appear to include a science fiction writer and an adult-content model, … but has so far failed to adequately explain its data or methodology.”
Both studies were co-authored in these prestigious journals by Surgisphere’s CEO, Sapan Desai. Desai has been involved in three medical malpractice suits. He has dismissed these allegations as “unfounded”.
It’s difficult to understand how these prestigious journals could have not looked into the company background of Surgisphere.
The company’s LinkedIn page listed just six employees until yesterday, when that was reduced to just 3 employees; Mr. Desai as CEO, an employee listed as a science editor who:
“… appears to be a science fiction author and fantasy artist. Another employee listed as a marketing executive is an adult model and events hostess.”
“Until Monday, the “get in touch” link on Surgisphere’s homepage redirected to a WordPress template for a cryptocurrency website, raising questions about how hospitals could easily contact the company to join its database.”
But the damage this shred of a medical database company has done to the credibility of medicine is difficult to imagine.
Surgisphere claims to have aggregated medical data from 96,000 patients from more than 1,200 hospitals worldwide. However, none of the hospitals contacted by the Guardian had ever heard or Surgisphere.
This so-called data formed the basis for changes in COVID-19 treatment recommendations, including a WHO decision to halt HCQ research trials worldwide. Yesterday, the WHO reversed that decision and announced those trials would resume.
According to the Guardian report,
By late Tuesday, both The Lancet, and The New England Journal of Medicine had released “expressions of concern” about their study based on Surgisphere data. The co-authors of both studies have commissioned independent audits of the validity of the Surgisphere data.
The conclusions of the Lancet study have now been disputed by 120 doctors.
If proven to be bogus, there is no telling how many thousands of patients around the world have had their medical outcomes irrevocably damaged by doctors being dissuaded from using HCQ in their treatment, but one thing is for sure, both The Lancet, and The New England Journal of Medicine have had their reputational outcomes damaged for many years to come.
This just in – the authors of The Lancet study have issued a retraction and an apology.

I’m still reporting from just outside the citadel of American freedom. Good day.
