WAIT TILL YOUR FATHER GETS HOME, the only successful, animated sitcom in the 27 year gap between the FLINTSTONES and SIMPSONS, progresses to its 40th regular episode...
It's bad enough that 20-something son Chet is a layabout hippie, but when usually capitalistic, industrious, grade school son Jamie starts following in his footsteps, it was just too much! So Harry decided to motivate Chet by giving him a creative position in his business, but all he worried about was saving the California Condor. (Basically an oversized turkey-buzzard!)
About a dozen years after this episode, the California Condor technically became extinct in the wild when all known specimens were captured. But it was only temporary. Through captive breeding and reintroduction to the wild, there are now over ten times the condors as there were at the time of this episode.
Isn't it precious that Chet thought these freakin' vultures needed fake trees and could eat bird seed rather than rotting meat? Kinda' typical for a lot of activists still today. Clueless about the underlying realities.
