Plagues, invasion, economic collapse, rebellions, sieges, societal collapse, severe weather events, etc... Take the basic scenario and plan how you would face it. What resources do you have available? What resources would help to better handle the situation? How should you change your training regime to help handle that type of scenario better? Then start adding the "what ifs".
