Debussy completed this ensemble sonata in 1915 with the premiere performance being given in November of 1916 at the New England Conservatory in Boston. Debussy had originally planned for the ensemble to be flute, oboe and harp but changed the oboe for a viola as he felt the timbre of the viola better suited the other two instruments.

The work is comprised of three movements:
I. Pastorale: Lento, dolce rubato
II. Interlude: Tempo di Minuetto
III. Finale: Allegro moderato ma risoluto

LESS
