Classical Liberalism* Seminar
Stanford University
Personal note:
*There are two predominant world views: Liberalism and Marxism (communism).
Liberalism champions Individual Liberty and Self-Determination.
Marxism champions Authority of the State over Individual autonomy.
Conservatism is not a philosophy but a political term. This term in the European experience: desiring to (politically) conserve the monarchical (nobility/oligarchy) state. The United States has never had a monarchy, the word conserve can only refer to Liberalism, the foundation of the American (US) experience: one may desire to (politically) conserve the Liberal precepts made manifest in the US Constitution.
I, for one, do not accept Collective Authoritarianism's redefinition of Liberalism. My philosophy requires no qualifier such as "classical" or "neo-". Redefining words is a tool of propaganda, and a standard modus operandi of communism, to wit, NewSpeak. In the US this redefinition came about in the 1930s when progressivism (Marxian collectivism employing the fascist economic model) fell out of favor.
I reject Authoritarianism/Marxism in a steadfast belief in the Enlightenment precepts of American Liberalism.
