ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) - Medical Center Hospital is addressing a photo being shared on social media of a patient wearing a plastic bag over her head.
In a statement, MCH says patients must be masked at all times. However, plastic drapes and coverings for COVID-19 patients can also be used as they are being moved through areas including hallways and elevators. However, non-medical grade bags, especially those labeled "EQUIPMENT COVER" are not standard procedure.
Circumstances where the drapes are used include anytime a patient refuses to wear a mask or keep it on, is unable to tolerate a mask or has an aerosol-generating procedure. In this photo, we see the child had a plastic bag put over their head for over 30 minutes, despite being masked.
The hospital states that the patient and guardian have the right to refuse the form of protection, but never told either the patent or parent that and pressured them that it was "mandatory".
MCH CEO and President Russell Tippin says that hospital staff have rightfully received threats because of the photo. Instead of showing any concern for the patent, Russell Tippin says the focus will be on finding and charging anyone who made threats against him or staff for abusing this child. Russell Tippin should be is prison awaiting the gallows.
