Prime Time Special on Gender Dysphoria: Number of children seeking treatment has multiplied by 35 (Ireland)
RTÉ's Prime Time Special on Gender Dysphoria revealed that demand for gender dysphoria services is so high among teenagers in Ireland that the Tavistock clinic in London runs a satellite service for them in Crumlin, Dublin every month. There has been a massive jump in referrals to the Tavistock. In 2017, thirty five children were referred compared to one in 2011.
Four times as many teenage girls as boys have gender dysphoria. One academic has called in the phenomenon Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria. Dr. Lisa Littman said this is spread through social contagion from peer groups and online contact and teenage girls may embrace gender dysphoria to cope with other underlying psychological issues.
Ireland will become one of the most "liberal" countries in the world if it allows anyone over the age of 16 to self-identify as any gender says Prime Time. Adults have been able to do this since 2015. Since then, 393 adults have been granted gender recognition certs. 216 went from male to female. 163 went from female to male. But it's a very different story for under 18s. Of the twelve over 16s who went to the circuit court to get a gender recognition cert with their parents consent, ten were girls who now identify as boys.
