The 26 White European Men Who Created The Modern World:
1. Archimedes (287-212 BC) - The greatest mathematician of antiquity and one of the greatest of all time.
2. Galileo (1564-1642) - the "father of observational astronomy", the "father of modern physics", the "father of the scientific method", and the "father of modern science".
3. Johannes Gutenberg (1400-1468) - played a key role in the development of the Renaissance, Reformation, the Age of Enlightenment, and the scientific revolution and laid the material basis for the modern knowledge-based economy and the spread of learning to the masses.
4. Eli Whitney (1765-1825) - was an American inventor best known for inventing the cotton gin.
5. James Watt (1736-1819) - improved on white European Christian Thomas Newcomen's 1712 Newcomen steam engine with his Watt steam engine in 1776, which was fundamental to the changes brought by the Industrial Revolution in both his native Great Britain and the rest of the world.
6. Humphry Davy (1778-1829) - isolating, using electricity, a series of elements for the first time: potassium and sodium in 1807 and calcium, strontium, barium, magnesium and boron the following year, as well as discovering the elemental nature of chlorine and iodine. He also studied the forces involved in these separations, inventing the new field of electrochemistry.
7. Charles Babbage (1791-1871) - originated the concept of a digital programmable computer.
8. Tim Berners-Lee (born 1955) - the inventor of the World Wide Web.
9. David Reeves Boggs (born 1950) – inventor of the Ethernet, and fundamental contributor to the birth of the Internet.
10. Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1726) - the most influential scientists of all time, and a key figure in the scientific revolution.
11. Alessandro Volta (1745-1827) - the inventor of the electric battery and the discoverer of methane.
12. Louis Pasteur (1822-1895) - renowned for his discoveries of the principles of vaccination, microbial fermentation and pasteurization. He created the first vaccines for rabies and anthrax. invention of the technique of treating milk and wine to stop bacterial contamination, a process now called pasteurization. Pasteur is known as the "father of microbiology".
13. Rudolf Diesel (1858-1913) - invented the Diesel engine.
14. Alexander Fleming (1881-1955) - discovered the world's first antibiotic substance benzylpenicillin (Penicillin G) from the mould Penicillium notatum in 1928.
15. Karl Friedrich Benz (1844-1929) - invented the first practical automobile.
16. Sir Hiram Stevens Maxim (1840-1916) - creator of the Maxim gun, the first portable fully automatic machine gun.
17. Guglielmo Marconi (1874-1937) - credited as the inventor of radio.
18. Henry Ford (1863-1947) - the founder of the Ford Motor Company, and the sponsor of the development of the assembly line technique of mass production.
19. Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) - designed the modern alternating current (AC) electricity supply system.
20. Wernher von Braun (1912-1977) - leading figure in the development of rocket technology in Germany and the father of rocket technology and space science in the United States.
21. Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) - the father of palaeontology, ichnology, and architecture, and he is widely considered one of the greatest painters of all time. Credited with the inventions of the parachute, helicopter, and tank.
22. Orville (1871-1948) & Wilbur Wright (1867-1912) - invented, built and flew the world's first successful airplane.
23. Alexander Graham Bell (1847-1922) - credited with inventing and patenting the first practical telephone.
24. John Logie Baird (1888-1946) - inventor of the mechanical television.
25. James Clerk Maxwell (1831-1879) - formulated the classical theory of electromagnetic radiation, bringing together for the first time electricity, magnetism, and light as different manifestations of the same phenomenon.
