Wo seid ihr Nächte am Feuer (Feiert das Fest, Kameraden) + English Translation
Ein Lied aus der bündischen Jugend, entstanden 1939. Wort & Weise: Georg Zierenberg (* 1911 - † 1963), Fahrtenname schorse (jim).

A song from the German youth movement, written in 1939. Words & Music: Georg Zierenberg (* 1911 - † 1963), trip name schorse (jim). He was a songwriter for the youth movement from the Nerother Wandervogel.
Another well-known song by him is "Comrades, when will we see you again? (Pub in the moor)". The "pub", also sung about in this song, is a disused freight wagon that was brought to a quiet heather lake not far from Hanover in the "Hohle Moor" after 1925 by a dozen students and members of the Wandervogel. This was a meeting point for members of the youth movement.

Text:
Wo seid ihr Nächte am Feuer,
wo seid ihr Männer vom Moor?
Der Zeiten gedenke ich euer,
hol ich die Gitarre hervor.
Und dann klingen die alten Lieder,
von der Kneipe dort unten am Moor.
Über schwarzen Wäldern steigt wieder,
roter Mond aus den Hügeln empor.
Refrain:
Feiert das Fest, Kameraden,
kurz ist das Leben auf dieser Erde,
feiert das Fest, Kameraden!
Wo seid ihr Nächte geblieben,
die wir durchzecht und durchlacht?
Wir hätten’s so weiter getrieben,
doch der Orlog*, der kam über Nacht.
Und es riefen uns die Kanonen,
und der Himmel stand wieder in Brand,
in Bunkern und Schiffen wir wohnen,
und fern ist das Heimatland.

English Translation:
Where are you Nights by the Fire,
Where are you men from the moor?
In these times I remember you
when I'll get the Guitar out.
And then the old songs sound
from the Pub down there on the moor.
Over black forests rises again
up from the hills the red moon.
Chorus:
Celebrate the feast, comrades,
short is life on this earth,
celebrate the feast, comrades!
Where did you go, you nights?
we drank and laughed all night
We would have carried on like this
but the orlog* came overnight.
And the cannons called us
and the sky was on fire again
in bunkers and ships we live
and far is the homeland.
---
*𝐎𝐫𝐥𝐨𝐠: an old word for "war"
