SWEDISH GOV REWARDS SYRIAN "REFUGEE" FOR RAPING WOMAN IN SWEDEN 840,000 Swedish crowns
In a shocking sentence, a Malmö court awarded a Syrian rapist 840,000 Swedish crowns (€80,000) in damages to be paid by the Swedish state, news portal Expressen reports.
A Swedish #rape victim has expressed anger that a #Syrian migrant who raped her has been given £70k ($96k) in damages by the Swedish state.
The victim, a 42-year-old woman named Petra, was one of the victims of a Syrian migrant and his brother, who abducted and raped two women in the spring of 2017 in the city of #Malmo, Sweden.
Following the arrest of the two Syrians, who had also locked up another woman in a basement for over 24 hours, Petra said she had to face them in a Swedish courtroom, where she says they laughed at her.
One of the rapists, the younger of the brothers, was recently awarded 840,000 kronor by the Swedish state (£70,000/$96,000) after complaining that he had been tried as an adult but had supposedly been a minor at the time of the rapes.
He was one of the two Syrian migrants arrived in Sweden in 2017, where they were immediately granted asylum and living expenses by the state. A few weeks later, however, they committed several serious crimes in Malmö, including abduction and rape in which one of the men strangled a woman.
A few weeks later, another woman was abducted, locked in a cellar, and then beaten and raped by one of the suspects. In addition, the two committed a series of other crimes, including such as extortion, theft, and driving without a license.
His initial sentences for the crimes did not even amount to five years in prison, even after being slightly increased at an appeal. The court eventually sentenced them to four and a half years in prison, but in the meantime, migrant aid NGO lawyers discovered that one of the offenders was under 18 years old at the time the crimes were committed. Therefore, compensation of SEK 840,000, approximately €80,000, has now been awarded in his favor. Since the man was under 18 at the time of the offenses, his sentence was considered to “harsh” due to Swedish law regarding punishment for underage perpetrators.
Sweden has seen a dramatic rise in sexual crimes, including rape and gang rape, over the last decades, with most of that rise attributed to the country’s growing migrant population.
