Figure Note:
Stop-Motion Transformation of TF:Prime First Edition Starscream. I love how the slouchy posture is part of the mold. These First Editions from the Prime line were great. I suspect they were going to be too expensive for retailers, so they had to shift gears and make the line cheaper, which meant lower part counts and letting the figures to be full of holes. Some of the mainline figures (Wheeljack, Vehicon) were quite good, but that was the beginning of the slide in figure quality. (It’s turned around a bit in Studio Series, but they’re still pretty hollow.) But they already had some some of the originally planned higher-grade figures, so TRU picked them up as an exclusive. What a line that could have been. I’d like to see MP-grade companies get into Prime, or Animated. And a damned MP Railracer.

Production Notes:
I used a new technique on the movements in post: I made them all exactly half a second and the pauses are also exactly a second. It looks very rhythmic.
I also figured out a technique to quickly re-register the figure after removing it from the stage and putting it back. Maybe that will be my secret. There’s a clue in how the figure drifts after the arms come down.
People think small figures are easy, but they are a real pain in the ass to keep still. They’re only easier in the number-of-steps department. But the new method really helped keep session time down while maintaining low incidental movement.

If you want to follow along, I recommend skipping to the speed run and using the Chrome plugin called "Frame by Frame for YouTube". It turns your , and . keyboard keys into single-frame movement keys. Every step of the transformation is documented in the frames of the video, in what I consider to be the best sequence. With mi..
