Martin, 18 Oktober 2020, op fb: "A long time ago, the whistling in full-blow, whistling Bach or Indian ragas or blues.. Now mostly blues.. Love is lost",
In september 1999 Martin Spaink improvised in our studio in Amsterdam. He was selected for the world championship whistling in Canada that year. Spaink is not just an average, everyday whistler but a whistler with large aspirations and the ambition to become a champion in the art. He is a connoisseur of medieval music and he liked Bach a lot. He also studied the art of overtone singing, a vocal technique in which special overtones are heard over the singing part. On a music trip through Mongolia he was taught by a traditional singing master and in Amsterdam he studied Indian classical music for seven years. In the interview he told Han Reiziger: ‘When things are going well, I have a three-octave range that's equal to the four strings of the viola. You whistle in a tune and you whistle out a tune, that's what it comes down to technically in the raga. Because of the deflecting tones it is impossible to play the melody on the piano, but for a whistler it is ideal.’

In september 1999 improviseerde kunstfluiter Martin Spaink in onze studio in Amsterdam.
