A United States veteran of the Iraq War attended a speaking engagement by former U.S. President George W. Bush and interrupted his speech to confront him for taking the country to war based on lies about Iraq’s possession of weapons of mass destruction.
The story: In a video posted Monday that has since gone viral, Mike Prysner, an Iraq War veteran, shouted from the audience at George W. Bush, demanding an apology for the deaths of Americans and Iraqis killed in the war based on his lies. In his comments, Prysner accused Bush of lying about Saddam Hussein’s proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and ties between Iraq and the persons responsible for the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City.
Before being removed from the event, Prysner, who is an organizer for the ANSWER coalition, began listing the names of Americans and Iraqis who died as a result of the war.
Prysner’s comments: Prysner appeared angry but spoke succinctly as he accused the former president.
“Mr. Bush, when are you going to apologize for the million Iraqis that are dead because you lied?” he asked.
“You lied about weapons of mass destruction. You lied about connections to 9/11. You lied about Iraq being a threat,” he enumerated. “My friends are dead. You killed people. You lied. My friends are dead because you lied.”
What Prysner hoped to get from the interruption was simple.
“You need to apologize! Apologize!” he demanded, as he was escorted from the building.
