A number of people in Canada who are low-income or poor are turning to euthanasia as a solution to their financial troubles. COVID-related debts and a lack of affordable housing have created dire financial situations causing individuals to take their own lives. Executive Director of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, Alex Schadenberg, talks more about this alarming trend in Canada. One woman, with several non-life threatening disabilities, said that she was opting to get a lethal injection because she "simply cannot afford to keep on living." In 2015, Canada's Supreme Court reversed its precedent that said assisted suicide was unconstitutional. Schadenberg takes us through what he has seen since that decision. That bill has been approved to soften the "reasonably foreseeable death" requirement that was previously needed to undergo assisted suicide. The executive director of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition shares more about that legislation.
