There has been lots of talk about demonetisation on YouTube. What does it means for creators and how does it affects the videos we watch?
Demonetisation not only affects income but your SEO on the platform, this video will focus mainly on the income aspect of it as this is arguably the most important thing about it.
The idea being if certain topics are demonetised then creators will have a disincentive to talk about that topic.
I am here to tell you that YouTube are wasting their time with this strategy because while is does hurt creators, it actually hurts Google shareholders the most.
The first adpocalypse gave YouTube an excuse to start flagging content they deemed “offensive”, the second adpocalypse showed everyone how hypocritical they are.
However, the hypocrisy and politics of YouTube/Google are not the point of this video, what I want to do is remind creators that the only thing that really matters is the audience.
Google can choose to generate an income from audiences or that can choose not to, but that doesn’t mean creators have to stop completely.
Ultimately demonetisation does hurt creators but the strategy will prove far more damaging to Google’s profits than anything else.
The adpocalypse might be here, but people love the creators that entertain and inform them far more than they will ever love Google and YouTube the company.
Please enjoy my video, I want to do more videos on ideas and arguments like this in the future so I do hope you like it.
It's all about the money.
Peace.
PS – In this video I include a minute or two on the history of advertising and how ads have evolved over time.
Researching this video was quite fun in the end and I didn’t expect it to be quite as eye opening.
Advertising actually has quite an interesting history, unfortunately I couldn’t get many relevant pictures for the vid so I had to use things that looked nice but weren’t quite historically accurate.
Sorry about that but it’s better to be slightly less accu..
