Strength Warrior Ryan Mathias Competing 100% RAW at the 2019 USPA Sierra Nevada Classic Meet

Check out all of Strength Warrior Ryan Mathias' 100% RAW lifts at the local USPA Sierra Nevada Classic Powerlifting Meet. This meet took place on Saturday, May 25th, 2019 at Ironworks Gym in Grass Valley, CA.

Ryan chose to compete 100% Raw, as in with no lifting gear such as a belt or knee sleeves, for a few reasons:

1) For fun - I always wanted to compete 100% RAW, and this was a small meet I had little time to prepare for, so I thought "Why not?"

2) Due to injury - I was injured (from an unrelated incident) up until 4 weeks out from the meet, leaving me only to start squatting again after 6 weeks of being off. The minor injury was to my right knee, and by lifting without gear I was forced to lift lighter, putting less stress on the knee compared to if I had worn a sleeve over it. Plus, I had been training 100% RAW for over a year straight anyway.

In all, it was a great day of fun! Not my best numbers, but pretty great relative to the problems I had leading up to it.
