Symphony No. 7, ‘Sinfonia antartica’ by Ralph Vaughan Williams

Vaughan Williams was commissioned to provide the score to the 1947 film ‘Scott of the Antarctic’. After completion of the score, Vaughan Williams decided to adapt the music into his 7th symphony named the ‘Antarctic Symphony’ and completed this in 1952. The piece includes several unusual instruments such as a glockenspiel and wind machine.

The work is comprised of five movements:
I. Prelude: Andante maestoso
II. Scherzo: Moderato
III. Landscape: Lento
IV. Intermezzo: Andante sostenuto
V. Epilogue: Alla marcia, moderato (non troppo allegro)
