Malcolm Gladwell: Stockbrokers Have to Get Their Predictions Rights, But Journalists Don't
Gladwelll confuses a Bolshevik social activist with a 'journalist'.
"I wonder if they have confused the role of journalists with that of stockbrokers.
Stockbrokers have to get their predictions righs, but journalists don't.
The job of a journalsit is to afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted. And sometimes that means you go down some dead ends, and you chase stories thqat don't turn out as you want them, or wished them or hoped they would turn out. But that is the nataure of the business. And if that business seems uncomfortable to you, then I would suggest you should go into stockbroking."
Jourmo says that quiet part out loud. Because they just can't resist the hubris.
To paraphrase Gladwell: 'As media, our job isn't to get things right.. it's to attack the classes of people we consider bad, and promote those we consider good.'
Remember, Ethics are done in the West. Done.
Especially at the highest levels of society.
Consequences are imminent.
The media doesn't 'occasionally get things wrong. They LIE, and propagandize for their own agenda and those of their paymasters. That's a BIG difference.
'There is no such thing, at this date of the world's history, in America, as an independent press. You know it and I know it. The business of the Journalist is to destroy truth; to lie outright; to pervert; to vilify; to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread. You know it and I know it and what folly is this toasting an independent press? We are the tools and vassals for rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes.'
~ John Swinton, former Chief of Staff, The New York Times, 1953
