Going in a completely different direction than Capcom’s arcade beat ‘em up, Alien Vs. Predator became the best-selling game on the Atari Jaguar console. It was for a good reason, as it presented a unique “open but contained world” concept for first-person shooters and allowed you to experience very different gameplay from three-character perspectives: the Marine, the Alien or the Predator. Instead of hopping from level to level, you had the entire 5-deck station to explore, plus the Predator and Alien vessels. The Marine featured a storyline that you could follow if you decided to read the computer blog entries, while searching the station for security cards and new weapons.

Rebellion was working on a sequel to this for the Jaguar CD which was never completed, but they took some of the ideas for that to the PC game that they would eventually release in 2000.
