Holy fire is one of the most recurring theophanies (manifestations of the divine) across religions. It is one of the forces which man most dreads when it gets beyond control. And it is the force on which man most relies for the purifying of the good and the destruction of the evil.
In Zoroastrianism, fire is the symbol of Ahura Mazda's eternal light, ultimate wisdom and the purifying power of his presence. God reveals himself numerous times in the Old Testament as divine flame, most famously as a burning bush and pillar of ash and fire, which parallels most natural religions.
