Question:

You get one minute to solve this puzzle. Pause the video if you need more time.

Answer:

The answer is 18 triangles.

It's very easy to miss a few triangles so let's go through how to count them in a structured way.

First we focus on the biggest triangle and ignore the rest of the lines. We get one triangle.
Now we bring back the 2 longest lines and see that there are 3 more to bring the total to 4 triangles.
Then there's the 2 remaining triangles, one on the left and the other on the right bringing the running total to 6 triangles.

We go on to outline the middle triangle to add to our total (7). Bringing back its 2 long lines will reveal 3 more triangles(10). Then there's the left side triangle (11) and the right side triangle (12).

Finally, we reach the capstone top triangle (13). Add its 3 smaller triangles (16) along with its left side triangle (17) and right side triangle (18).

That was the manual way of doing it. Not the fastest way but it gets the job done!

A more clever way would be to count first set of 6 triangles and realize that this pattern is repeated 3 times.
All we have to do is now multiply 6 by 3 to arrive at the same total of 18 triangles.
