Rimsky-Korsakov completed this short work for orchestra in 1904. It was written as a tribute to Russian music publisher and philanthropist Mitrofan Belyayev after his death in January of 1904. The patronage of Belyayev supported composers such as Rimsky-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky and Borodin.

This work is comprised of a single movement.
