Lost Item Report in Occupied Palestine
“Lost Item Report” is a poem by Frances L. Hillyard about a woman in the town of Jenin in Palestine under Apartheid occupation.
Frances was one of the poets, singer-songwriters, and speakers who responded to the call of poet Arnie Passman and the BFUU Social Justice Committee to commemorate the 59th birthday of the Peace Symbol. This is a “one poem” clip from the four poem session presented by Frances Hillyard on that rainy day in Berkeley. Her four poem session video is extracted from a 58 minute Public Access HD TV Creative Commons video named “Berkeley Celebrates the 59th Birthday of the Peace Symbol”, which is available for use on local Cable TV programming.
The event in Fellowship Hall in Berkeley was sponsored by the BFUU Social Justice Committee. This year marked the 59th Anniversary of the origins of the Peace Symbol. Born out of fear of nuclear mass destruction, it has become an essential part of our Peace Movement. Gerald Herbert Holten created the Peace Symbol using the navy semaphore signals on February 21, 1958 in support of the "Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament". Holten had been a conscientious objector during World War II. He was a graduate of the Royal College of Art.
Note: Several photos in the poem by Frances L. Hillyard about the town of Jenin in Palestine were used by permission of Ahmed Alomary who lives in Jenin, Palestine. During research Vic Sadot discovered Ahmed’s YouTube video, which has his Facebook photography page: facebook.com/AMDOphotos

London schoolgirl targeted with 'appalling' online abuse after winning competition with pro-Palestinian speech: “Leanne Mohamed, from Ilford, won the Redbridge borough final in the Jack Petchey “Speak Out” Challenge but footage of her entry has sparked fierce debate and online abuse. In the speech, entitled “Birds Not Bombs”, she said her family was Palestinian and spoke of the death of her one-year-old cousin after relatives struggled to access medical treatment in Gaza.
