Synthesis of Sodium Nitrite and Potassium Nitrite via reduction of the Nitrate

In this video I attempt to synthesize Sodium Nitrite and Potassium Nitrite from Sodium Nitrate and Potassium Nitrate.

I am attempting to reduce the Nitrate group by one Oxygen using Carbon as the reducing agent. Things don't go completely according to plan, but the synthesis appears to be a viable one.
