Have you seen 'Why blackface is still part of Dutch Christmas' or any of the other nonsense documentaries about Black Pete? Do you think the Dutch tradition Black Pete is racist? In reality, Black Pete does not have racist origin and the name of the party is not 'Dutch Christmas'. So, apparently, Vox didn't do proper research. Also, the tradition is way older than the European Slave Trade.
Black Pete is a humanised form of Krampus. Black Pete originates from Germanic pagan traditions. In Europe, Saint Nicholas is often accompanied by a little dark figure whose role it is to scare children. Black Pete is simply a humanised version of this. He is black because he represents the darkness, which balances out Saint Nicholas, who represents the light.
Stop being misinformed about Black Pete. Black Pete is not racist. Do not demonise or even aim to abolish something that you don't understand.
