Mystery of the Mummy (a.k.a. Bozuma) (1988, PC)

Mystery of the Mummy is an adventure game by German developer Time Warp Productions. It was published by German company Rainbow Arts and came out for C64 and Amiga, as well. The original German version was released under the title Bozuma.

The story takes place in in Hamburg in 1912. You play a lawyer (you can choose name) who has just travelled to Hamburg with his driver Wilhelm. On arrival, a man called Rabensberg calls you on the phone. He tells you the story of a mummy which was brought to Germany from Cameroon in the 1880s. Rebensberg's father was a member of the expedition which brought the mummy from Africa. The locals on the expedition claimed, a curse was lying upon the mummy, and several members of the expedition became ill after discovering it. The mummy was brought to Hamburg by Rabensberg's father after the leader of the expedition fell ill, as well. Shortly after arriving in Hamburg, Rabensberg's father agreed to lend the mummy for an exhibition in Berlin. However, the mummy was stolen. Now, Mr. Rabensberg has seen an announcement in a Hamburg newspaper that an African mummy will be sold at an auction in a few days, and he begs you to check if this the mummy which was stolen back in the days. What seems like a trivial matter soons heats up when a scientist examining the mummy gets killed.

The game does not have classical puzzles, but focuses on detective work instead. You collect hints and information, talk to people and deduce where to look next. Time is a crucial factor, as you have got only a few days and time is passing continuously. You need to travel around Hamburg a lot, and each travel takes up time. You can choose to walk (slower) or go by car (faster), but the car has a limited amount of fuel and your money (you need to pay for the fuel) is also limited. Moreover, you need to eat and sleep, as well. You can also phone many places. The game comes with a phone/address list and a map of Hamburg.
