2015 BC Rich Mockingbird FR Ultra Mod - Clip 6 - Install Electronic Component - DiMarzio Pickups
In video six of series, you may see installation of electronic components.
Original plan included following pickups installed:
NECK: DiMarzio DP258 Titan with Nickel Cover/Black Pole Pieces
BRIDGE: DiMarzio DP102BC X2N Black/Cream
Unfortunate, but Titan pickup was defective! Instead of purchasing directly from DiMarzio, I purchased on eBay from "authorized DiMarzio dealer", because I thought it may be faster than typical custom pickup order from DiMarzio. Seller had good selection of pre-configured pickups, so I took chance. I lost. After installation, I found internal wiring was shorting to pickup housing ground. Seller said they do not accept returns/refund, that you must send directly to DiMarzio. DiMarzio repaired (did not replace) pickup with no questions, and sent back to me VERY quickly. I have not tested to see if repair was successful, but I have learned lesson...always buy custom pickup directly from DiMarzio, and have some patience to test all pickups BEFORE installation into guitar!
In meantime, I installed lower output DiMarzio DP260BC+BK PAF Master Neck I had in stock for another project. I like this pickup very much...sound is great, and low out means you may go from screaming lead to subdued rhythm sound using pickup selector toggle switch, without adjusting volume knob.
I would still like to try Titan pickups, however, and may install Titans in bridge and neck positions of this guitar in future project. X2N is awesome for distortion, but "sound" is nothing special, and not good for clean sound in case I decide I want to play some John Denver music. 😂
Also defective was gold Switchcraft toggle switch. I had to bend contact points to correct operation...a difficult problem to diagnose and questionable fix. Quality of Switchcraft toggles seems hit or miss...they often feel very loose/cheap. Dirt cheap metric threaded toggles often feel better quality than Switchcraft, in my simple opinion.
But, at least it works now, and I can pretend to play guitar on it....and everything sounds good in my ears when I use Metal Zone pedal. 😈
