Working with an IME isn't really that difficult but it can take a bit of time to get used to especially when you're also learning the language. I'm going to be working with Mozc today for Japanese input but this works quite similiar to the Google IME so a lot will be transferable, after today you'll be able to start typing out kanji even though you won't be any better at Japanese.
