In response to a question from Deputy Richard Boyd Barrett on the deportation of non-Irish people who have no right to live in Ireland, the Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan told the Dáil that agencies within his Department deal with in excess of 250,000 applications for citizenship, asylum and visas per year. He also stated that only a tiny fraction of people with deportation orders are subject to deportation.

"Having regard to applications for citizenship, international protection and visas, agencies within my Department deal with in excess of 250,000 cases on an annual basis. Of those, I wish to assure the House that only a tiny fraction are subject to deportation orders at the end of a lengthy process."

On the 22nd of October, Minister Charlie Flanagan told Newstalk that less than 1% of deportation orders against minors were enforced in the last five years amounting to almost 20,000 minors with deportation orders being granted Irish citizenship.
