The Educated Stupid - or, "Ph.D.-tarded" - Jody Bruchon

You can have a college degree, a name plaque on your office door, and the respect of thousands...and still be stupid. Appeals to authority are not logically valid and your credentials won't save you from me calling you out. This isn't a smear against credentials; it's only a stab at the smug who act like credentials make them superior and unquestionable.

Over the course of my adult life, I have run into an ever-increasing number of people that seem to think that their opinions matter largely because of their credentials. This concept sort of goes back to parents, who are the boss by the simple virtue of having birthed you. This issue seems to grow more common with every year I am alive. Trusting someone on the basis of their credentials or reputation is a risky matter that involves throwing skepticism and facts to the wind, favoring instead to take actions based on nothing substantive. I, for one, am quite done with faith-based correctness.
