The New Zealand Story (ザ・ニュージーランドストーリー) (1992, Master System)

The New Zealand Story (ザ・ニュージーランドストーリー) is a platformer. It was originally developed and published by Taito for the arcades. The Master System port was developed and released by British company TecMagik Entertainment. The game's story a about a group of kiwis in New Zealand who get kidnapped by a giant walrus. One kiwi, Tiki, was able to escape and now comes to the rescue of his friends.
In each level, Tiki must find his way to a cage where one of his friends is held captive. While there is no visible timer, there is still a time limit. If you take too long, a demon-like flying creature will appear and chasing Tiki. If it catches Tiki, you loose a life. Tiki does with one hit. Some enemies or not lethal on touch though, only their shots. Tiki has a bow with infinite ammo, and other weapons like laser guns are randomly dropped by enemies. Like any kiwi, Tiki cannot fly on his own, but he can use flying contraptions. Some can be found in the levels, and many enemies ride on flying devices. You can shoot the enemy from the device and use it yourself. This is often need in order to advance.
Fun fact: It is said that the game was developed by one of Taito's programmers during his vacation in New Zealand, the background in the game show all the locations the programmer has visited.
The game also came out for the Mega Drive, C64, Amstrad CPC, ZX Spectrum, Atari ST, Amiga, Sharp X68000, FM Towns and TurboGrafx-16 / PC-Engine. As far as I know, only the NES port was released in North America (under the title "Kiwi Kraze").
