Indian officials said Saturday that personnel, military helicopters and boats have been sent to rescue up to 700 stranded passengers on a train after being trapped by monsoon floodwaters near Mumbai, according to photos released by The Associated Press.
"Reuters."
The Mahalaxmi Express train, according to The Middle East, was suspended about 60 kilometers from Mumbai late in the night and passengers asked for help on social media by posting videos of their status on their mobile phones.
"All passengers, including many children, have been taken to safe areas in massive rescue efforts," Said Sunil Odasi, regional spokesman for the railways, in remarks to reporters quoted by the German news agency DPA.
