Jesuit Suppression: No Merit in Worrying

By God’s good grace, we can merit by embracing joyfully or at least being resigned to the crosses in life that we presently face. We can even embrace those future crosses which are bound to be placed before us, such as our own bodily death. But there is absolutely no merit in suffering over some undetermined future contingent crosses over which we worry. In other words, there no merit in anticipating future sufferings that may or may not happen. We have enough crosses placed before us today in this valley of tears, so why burden ourselves with future, imagined, nightmarish crosses that we cannot benefit from. Our job is to live this present moment where grace and merit is available and simply to imitate our good Lord, Who did all things well, leaving the past to His Mercy and the future to His Divine Providence and Predestination.
