The Mobile County Commission expresses deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Judge James Patterson of the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Court in Mobile, who passed away Jan. 10, 2023. Judge Patterson was a dedicated public servant and an American patriot who served his nation in the U.S. Navy before embarking on a second career within the legal system, culminating in his service as a Circuit Court judge. In all of these roles, he significantly impacted the lives of many. He’ll be greatly missed. May he rest in peace.
ORIGINAL STORY: MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile County Circuit Judge James Patterson died Tuesday afternoon. Judge Patterson suffered a stroke over the Christmas holidays and had been in the hospital since then, according to sources.

A 1978 UMS Preparatory School graduate, Patterson went on to graduate from Samford University in Birmingham in 1982 and got a law degree from its Cumberland School of Law. Patterson served in the Navy on various aircraft carriers as a helicopter attack pilot and nuclear weapons delivery pilot, according to his court biography.
