The Journey of One Little Mulberry Transplant

In May, 2018 the Mulberry tree on Mom's property was about ready to drop its fruits / berries. I just happened to notice a small mulberry seedling that had sprouted on a fence-line about 20 feet away. I dug it up which shocked it a little I think because it did hardly nothing but root that year. In 2019 & 2020 I was on the road traveling most of the time. During that time the deer had ate every leaf on the tree and I didn't know it. In 2021 I finally spent some time at Moms and actually busted the friggin dear eating the leaves just as they started sprouting. The war was on. I fenced the tree that year, a little too late, and just crossed my fingers that it would live. At this point I had four years into the tree with nothing but a bare trunk, 18" tall. So this year, 2022, was the first year that it was free to thrive and it did. Hopefully 2023 will see its first berries.
