The Dam Busters March by Eric Coates

British composer Eric Coates completed a short work for orchestra in 1954, simply titled ‘March’. The work was in march format and was intended to emulate the compositions of fellow composer Sir Edward Elgar. Coates was approached by the Associated British Picture Corporation later the same year and asked to compose part of the film score to the movie “The Dam Busters’ which they were currently filming. Coates was hesitant to contribute to the movie, but allowed his orchestral march to be used as the main theme.

The movie was premiered in 1955 to great success, and this musical work is now only referred to as the “Dam Busters March”.
