There's lots of informative content here, but one point I want to extract: "Popular psychology had people believing that most are unaware and just don't really see what they're doing. But these folks know what they're up to and know exactly what buttons to push and how hard, and just how to get the better of you."

Now why would pop psychology get it so wrong? If you go to an abuser trying to get them to understand the errors of their actions as though they don't understand, they are 100% prepared for this because they do fully understand!

This sets you up for crazy making.
