Recent lab and clinical data suggest a substantial reduction in neutralization by a single jab of the Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccine against the Delta/Indian variant
Protection is as low as 34% with a single shot of both vaccines but increases to 60% with the AZ vaccine and 88% with the Pfizer vaccine after 2 shots.
It, therefore, makes sense to administer both jabs in order to tackle the Pandemic in India. A single shot regimen would prove disastrous.
Also, in view of recent data, ivermectin should be taken as a prophylactic by people not fully vaccinated. It is cheap, easily affordable, and very effective.
