One of the most intellectual comic books I've read was given a cartoon treatment by MTV in the 90s in their Oddities block. This is the 13 episode affair knocked into a feature length runtime with just some very minor cuts and edits. Sam Keith has some amazing artwork carried over into the show and I wish more animated comic films would attempt to emulate the art style fans have grown accustomed to. Could you imagine if Greg Capullo did cartoons, i.e.? With the same attention to detail and everything just in motion? Animators should contact me, I got a hell of a idea in handling art in this manner. Super secret. Shhhh.
