These are from Turkey and Egypt primarily, but were cultivated in France in the 18th century. I've only seen them in seed catalogs but to my surprise they had some at the local grocery chain so I thought I'd give it a try. You need a serraded knife to get it open but after that its just like any other squash. How does it taste? Well kinda mushy and bland. It might be better suited for sweet pies but I saved some seeds and will grow some out just for fall decorations if nothing else.
