4th Grade Math 2.4, Estimate Products by Rounding

We can estimate products by rounding the greater factor to the nearest higher place, then multiply using mental math. We can also estimate by finding two numbers that the exact answer should be between. By using the maximum and minimum numbers to round to the next higher and the next lower number, our estimate will represent a range of possible numbers. We can estimate a product to find if an answer is reasonable and makes sense. We can use the Associative Property to help us multiply and estimate. We review multiplying tens, hundreds, and thousands, and putting the number of zeros in the factors as the number of zeros in the product, that we learned in lesson 2.3. We remove unnecessary information from a given word problem. We predict whether an exact answer will be less than or greater than an estimate.
