Charlotte Rasmussen is a kind and caring soul who has contributed much to New Zealand in her decent, honourable life. She trusted others to be equally decent. She trusted the assurances of the Prime Minister, she trusted that the doctors and nurses in our hospitals would always operate from the same sense of integrity that she has. They did not and in this interview, they are called to be accountable.
Here's a message from Charlotte to help all similarly injured Kiwis:
"If there is a strong message that I have is for anyone to act very quickly, don't leave it for too long. Also, if possible have a strong advocate with you when you are unwell. Know your rights and what you need to be examined for, you shouldn't have to work it out for yourself. I was left from 1pm in a wheelchair at Hawera hospital to get ready, we didn't leave until 4pm and was up at NPL hospital at 5:30pm and only got a small cup of water and a sandwich for dinner. Now I have a small bag packed with snacks and a water bottle in case I have to go to hospital again. It should be that you get a jug of water when you arrive, not having to ask for it when you are very unwell. I don't like asking for anything but I will give you my bank account details which are ASB 12-3114-0099399-50 and the name is C T Rasmussen. In fact, the day you interviewed me I had given money to a mum in Christchurch (helping hands)."
