Ok as I mention in the lead in for this one. This is very special to me. The series involved in what this movie was based on is my favorite series of all time, since I was 7. This series was really, for a number of Gen Xers the first exposure they ever had to Japanese Anime. Although they really were not aware of it because they were watching something called Star Blazers and when you are that young you didn’t know any better. Amazingly, except for the naming conventions though the dub was not bad. For all of you from my generation you might also remember Battle Of The Planets which in Japan was known as Ninja Science Team Gatchaman. The people who put together Robotech actually took an unsuccessful crack at bringing that one out a while back as a 3 part series simply called Gatchaman.
Anyway I don’t take to things lightly. In America parents spent so much time trying to shield us from everything that for kids who were intelligent seriously wanted to kill them. Thankfully, Japan filled the role of mother and father for us Domo Arigato Nippon!
Plot: In 2199, five years after the Gamilas launch attacks on Earth, the planet has been ravaged by radiation bombs making the Earth barely inhabitable. The remnants of humanity have moved underground. One day, former pilot Susumu Kodai (Derrick Wildstar) discovers a message capsule sent from the planet Iskandar that tells of a device that can remove the radiation from the Earth's surface. The woman in the recorded message on the device tells of a new form of space travel that would allow humans to reach her planet to retrieve the device. The governments of the world have already concieved a plan for the evactuation of the higher value people of humanity but with this new hope can they leave the rest of humanity to die? The mission is set, the vehicle rebuilt, the future lies in Yamato!
