The original LP track was issued on (UK) Argo RG 33 - Day Dah Light by Edric Connor with The Caribbeans
This is believed to be the first known recording of the traditional Jamaican folk/work song. Included in the LP “Songs From Jamaica” by Trinidadian singer Connor, this may not be all that close of a match to either the Harry Belafonte “Banana Boat (Day-O)” treatment or the more singable Tarriers best-seller “The Banana Boat Song” with its descending ‘Day-O, Day-O’ chorus, but you can hear that both of those 1956-57 hits borrowed elements from this arrangement. Some sources suggest that the album was recorded in 1952 rather than 1954.
