Two Nordic Songs, Op. 63 by Edvard Grieg
In 1895, Grieg adapted two Nordic folk songs into a work for string orchestra. The first of the two songs “In Folk-Song Style” is based on a tune by the Swedish composer Fredik Due, who was at that time the Norwegian and Swedish Ambassador in Paris. The second song “Cow-Call and Peasant Dance” is based on a melody from an earlier Grieg work “Norwegian Folk Ballads and Dances”.
Grieg would adapt this work for piano the following year, with the manuscript of the string orchestra and piano verion published in 1896.
This work is comprised of two movements:

II. Cattle Call and Peasant Dance
