Horses ran in their paddock at River Ranch in Calliope, Queensland, as a dust devil swirled through the property on July 16. Ranch owner Katelyn Laing captured this video of the dust devil. She told Storyful that “It lasted approximately two minutes. Started in our paddock and traveled through our other paddocks. It fizzled out at the fence line.” She added, “We have been there 10 years and have never seen anything like it.” Dust devils can occur when hot air rises rapidly through cold air, forming a swirling vortex. 7News Australia reported that the dust devil in this video took place amid the driest conditions that the region has seen in many years.
