Fort VII, located in Poznań, Poland, holds a dark and significant place in history as a symbol of the atrocities of World War II. Originally built in the late 19th century as part of the Prussian fortress system surrounding Poznań, its purpose shifted dramatically during the war. The Nazis repurposed Fort VII into a concentration camp, one of the first established in occupied Poland. Between 1939 and 1944, it served as a place of torment and execution for political prisoners, members of the Polish resistance, Jews, and other persecuted groups. The fort's transition from a military installation to a site of immense human suffering epitomises the brutal transformation of many such structures during the conflict, making Fort VII a poignant reminder of the horrors of war and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of oppression.
