A 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit southern Turkey and northern Syria early Monday, killing more than 2,500 people and injuring thousands more as it toppled thousands of buildings and trapped residents under mounds of rubble. The quake was felt across Syria, Jordan, and Israel, among other neighboring countries. At least 207 were killed and hundreds injured, and the toll was expected to rise. Former Chelsea winger Christian Atsu is reportedly 'trapped under rubble' following the incident. The Foreign Office (FCDO) has updated its advice to UK travellers, urging them to “avoid the immediate vicinity” of the incident.
